The data were collected by personal contacts.Major economic problems faced by the banana growers in management of risk in drip irrigated banana cultivation were heavy cost of installation of drip irrigation system, high cost of fuel to use engines for irrigation and high cost of spare parts of drip irrigation system. As far as technological constraints faced by the banana growers were lack of sufficient electricity, problem of salty ground water and difficulty in interculturing operations. Non-availability of quality material of DIS with reasonable rates, lack of technical guidance from company agent in time and delay in sanction of loan and subsidy were the major administrative constraints faced by the banana growers. Whereas, in case of marketing related constraints faced by the banana growers were absences of support price during glut in the market, high cost of transportation and lack of timely information regarding demand and supply of the produce. Personal and socio-psychological constraints faced by the farmers in management of risk during drip irrigated banana cultivation were lack of knowledge about schedule of water soluble fertilizers application, lack of knowledge about use of fertilizers, liquid fertilizers, GR etc. and lack of knowledge about plant protection of banana crop. While, lack of knowledge about export procedure, lengthy procedures and formalities for export of produce and lack of knowledge about minimum residual level of chemical were the major export related constraints faced by the banana growers in drip irrigated banana cultivation. Keywords

The constraints faced by programme coordinators in performing extension management and suggestions offered by them to overcome some of the practical problems will also be useful in structuring effective strategy for KVKs' established future as well as existing KVKs' in the country. The major constraints experienced and expressed by programme coordinators are the lack of promotion channel for the staff of KVK, number of vacant posts of the subordinate staff, intermittent flow of the funds from organization to KVK head for carrying out mandated activities, unwanted pressure from the local politician to fetch more benefits from KVK schemes to their own jurisdiction, untimely flow of funds for the extension activities and FLDs, frequent transfers of the staff from KVK to other department were the major constraints faced by the programme coordinators in managing the KVKs' as per the guidelines of council. Those are the constraints experienced and expressed by the programme coordinators to restrict their extension management ability. After studying the constraints faced by them some suggestions were also collected from them to overcome the constraints. The major suggestions given by programme coordinators in performing their work effectively as extension managers of KVKs' were related to urgent appointment of vacant posts, appointment of qualified technical staff, sufficient and timely supply of main and additional grants, provision of sufficient primary and advanced infrastructural facilities, career advancement, restriction on frequent transfer, availability of modern information communication technology, effective linkage with other organizations and personnel management policy. Keywords

The study was carried out selecting a random sample of 160 Programme Coordinators of five years old KVKs of all the eight zones of India with full-fledged activities in the service of farmers. The Ex-Post-Facto Research Design was used for this study. The data were collected through mail questionnaire as well as interview schedules either by contacting through post or personal contacts. The suitable statistical tools were used to analyze the data. The study reveals that slightly more than half of the programme coordinators of KVKs had high level of planning ability (51.25%), majority of them had medium to high level of organizing capacity (85%), high level of ability of directing their subordinates (76.87%), high level of ability of communication (58.13%), medium to high level of capacity to maintain human relations (91.87%), high level of lead taking behaviour (61.88%), supervising ability (71.26%), coordinating ability (62.50%) and medium level of overall extension management ability (68.12%), whereas slightly less than half of the programme coordinators had high level of decision making capacity (45.00%) and high level of controlling power (48.12%). The personal variables of programme coordinators of KVKs such as; young age, higher education, vigorous status of health and rural native place, while organizational variables like; conducive organizational climate, needed organizat ional facility and bet ter interpersonal communication, whereas socio-psychological variables for instance; extrovert personality and positive attitudes towards extension work and low level of job stress played significant role on their extension management ability. The study was conducted to develop and standardize the reliable and valid scale, to measure attitude of women towards kitchen gardening. Appropriate statistical methods ‘scale product method’ was used, which combines Thurston and Likert techniques. Twenty one statements were selected for judgment; a panel of 50 judges was requested to assign the score for each statement on five point continuum. Based on the scale (median) and Q values, eleven statements were finally selected to constitute attitude of women towards kitchen gardening. Keywords
